Hi,

I Love my brother HL-1440

how do I fix this poo? any other owners encounter this schtuff?

thx!

HI, i've found that if you just take them apart, and wash them in warm water, they work great afterwards. Just make sure they are nice and dry. Theres a brush that extends the length of the drum that takes a long time to dry. I like to let them dry for a good couple days. Hope this helps!

me: R U serious?

Yes, I am 100% serious. Take the toner/drum assembly out. Take the toner off, and all thats left is the drum. There should be 3 screws, take the top off, and there will be a fuzzy strip that sweeps the drum. There are 2 screws holding that on, so you take those off and you run the green drum assembly and the fuzzy strip under running water.

well, I didn't wash the green cylinder...but I did wash the brush-type-thingy off. 🙂 It's drying now... we'll see how it werks! It look sWAAAAAAAY better now tho! 🙂

does anyone know how to get page counts from this stinkin' printer? I tried the parallel thing...but haven't found the option! 🙁 grrrrrrrr.

Had the same problem with the same printer after awhile. Since a new drum cartridge costs a ridiculous amount of money, I junked the printer.

now I can't get a lousy page count out of this thing! DOH!

I've done it once before, back in the day...but no amount of control panel button pushing is getting this thing to spit out it's page count! GRRRRRRRRR.

Googling bring this up but the guy says it has to be through start programs brother...which is NOT an option for me...dunno why...but I'd say it's b/c I just installed the drivers for XP... 🙁

well, anyway, now I guess I need a new toner cart...and can't figure my baseline for the installation of the new toner cart. 🙁 grrrrrrr.

anyone know how to get a page count out of this stinkybox?!?

where do Uallbuy cheap toner? I hear that abcink has dealios on HP toner carts. Are the non brother toner carts okay?

It's a very common problem with the Brother 1440 consumables; such POS that breaks apart. Just wait till your drum dies on you way before it should. That is why there is the saying

Anything other than Brother!

Im thrilled to hear you didnt run the actual drum under water, that would cause it permanent damage for sure!!! All you really would need to do is to use a dry cloth to clean the drum. Good call from you 😀

yeah, upon inspection, I thot twice about runnin' it under there. like you said, just rubbin it down w/ a paper towel seemed to get everything off...its bright-shiny new! 🙂

this guy from FW claims to serve 450 plus for Maurices (the clothing chain)

says he always does this routine w/ them.

anyhow... I dunno...I can't wait to put it all back together...but I'm gonna wait until I've had a fan on it for a couple days 🙂

still wish I could figure out how to get a page count out of it! 🙂 Grrrrrrrrr.

weeeeeeeeeell.... it's all "GHEY still! BLEH!

still printing gray allover the pages. 🙁

maaaaaaaaaaaaan....how the heck do I FIX this crap?

Have you tried replacing either of the cartridges? People have already told you that's most likely the problem . . .

thanks...sure...glad you noticed that.

I was kinda going for an alternate solution maybe...

This gray pages issue has been going on for about 10 years now. Even though they have introduced new models, this problem still exists for too many users. Good luck in finding any type user-introduced fix. About the only proven methods to resolve this situation is:

1. Complain to tech support, especially if you are still under warranty or have printed sparingly. They may send you a new toner or drum if you are lucky.
2. Buy a new toner or drum discounted via Ebay, classifieds, etc.
3. Buy a new HL-1440 on sale since it would cost less than a new drum and slightly more than new toner.
4. Donate or sell it as-is and purchase a different brand.

Thank you very much for this valuable and helpful information! 😀 I'm considering the ebay route...although I know that this means more $$ later when it happens in another 2 or 3 PAGES. :| grrrrrrrrrr.

Anyway, have you had any luck w/ any particular off brand drum/toner combination or seller on ebay?
