Can anyone tell me or direct me to a fool/idiot-proof way to take a HSF off of a video card? I would hate to kill a video card & knowing me, it'll happen...
I don't think there is an idiot proof way to do anything with a computer. But I usually use a screwdriver with a big (wide) but not too thick head. Then pry it off. That way the pressure is more evenly distributed.
Putting the card (in an anti-static bag) in the freezer for a bit, helps to make the adhesive more brittle. I've always had good luck with that method. And be sure to put something protective under the screwdriver. A credit card works real well.
