Umm please, some of the most brilliant minds have been developed and created in Berkeley. Condemning their teachers is something only ignorance can produce. Unless you have visited the campus and interacted with a good portion of the students, don't comment on Berkeley because you dont know.

Nobody is refusing rights, if you want to sing the anthem and hold your own service you could do it at Berkeley, but the event that these students are organizing doesn't include it. Presence, FFMCobalt, the more you speak the dumber and far more ignorant you sound compared to these Berkeley whackos.
Who, exactly, is paying for this "event"?
Is it not the University, that is financed with tax dollars?

If I am mistaken, please feel free to correct me.

I'll say who the hell cares? If there happens to be a few tax dollars going into this (which there might not) then it's for an event to remember the people who died on 9/11. What's the problem with that? You want to have some control over the event too? Tell them to sing certain songs?

It is an event to remember the dead and nothing more...get over it.

THANK YOU!! Like Berdahl said, that 1/2 hour is basically designated as a moment of silence to remember those at the WTC. Anyone who belts out ANY song, regardless of whether or not the song is patriotic, during that moment will be dealt a swift kick in the ass. There will be music playing, but I guess it's simply some Enya-esque crap to help ease one's mind.

If you want to sing patriotic songs, you have the other 23 and 1/2 hours in the day to do so. And if you don't like it, you can simply leave (that seems to be the theme of conservatives lately, hasn't it?). Nobody's holding you here against your will.

I agree. That's why institutions like Berkeley will continue to lose standing among those who actually have the authority to hire, in terms of the perceived quality of the education it provides. IMHO, you're tossing your money away attending an institution like that, you're being indoctrinated, and paying heavily for the priviledge. In fact, you're subsidizing it.

I don't know about any other major, but for pure sciences like biology, engineering/computer science, and chemistry, the perceived quality of Berkeley's education hasn't dropped a bit. Although we may not be the most vocal members in the school, our work in school speaks volumes for ourselves.

As for "tossing my money away". I figure I have two choices:
1) I can attend a top school like Berkeley and pay $8,000/year all the while cashing in on other people's tax money
2) I can attend a top school like Stanford and pay $30,000/year in addition to subsidizing some other person's education.

Now how am I paying heavily for attending Berkeley again?

My, my - hostile aren't we?

I have no problem with anything, and I desire no control at all.
I asked a question about taxes, as do many who wonder where their money goes.
There is really nothing for me to "get over", but thanks for caring anyway.

FFMcobalt and Presence, you obviously have no idea of the reputation and quality of education that Berkeley has to offer. Their EECS program is one of the top 5 GLOBALLY! That's right, GLOBALLY! For anyone to say that having a degree from berkeley is losing importance is obvioulsy stupid. Berkeley is also the hardest UC school to get into and the most selective. Their computer programs are top in the nation, their business program (HAAS) is also very prestigious. You all can dis Berkeley about its political views and such, but when it comes to education there is no denying that Berkeley is top notch. Present me some evidence that proves otherwise...

This is coming from someone who wnats to eradicate a word from the english language, a word she doesn't even kow the meaning of.

SA-- it is very apparent that your parents, teachers, etc were very niggardly when it came to passing knowledge to you.

If you are part of a group, any group, and this group has an extremely vocal minority... you WILL be judged by their actions. Unless, of course, the majority stands up and speaks their mind as well.

By allowing this extremely vocal and militant minority to run amok unopposed, Berkeley's admin and student body have allowed themselves to be identified with their views, and their views alone.

I know it sucks, but people have too much going on in their lives to research everything in depth. All they need is to see a constant stream of whackos protesting stupid sh!t coming out of Berkeley to form an opinion on the entire school and student body. If you don't want people's perception to be like this, stand up and oppose these loud mouthed little sh!ts.

By allowing this extremely vocal and militant minority to run amok unopposed (like FFM Colbalt), ATOT has allowed themselves to be identified with their views, and their views alone.

But they're not unopposed. The militant liberals oppose them in every thread and vice-versa.

Now, if this were Rosie O'Crapple's website where any opposition is promptly removed, I might agree with you. :p

They try but ATOT is often described as a bastion of Muddle minded Ulra Conservatives..Ok that's how they describe ATOT at Ars (when they are being generous) and we know Ars is a place run by Liberal Pedophiles:)

You must remember that those on the far left consider moderates AND libertarians to be "Muddle minded Ulra Conservatives."

I never go anywhere/post anything at ars except in the Soap Box. To simply describe most of the people there as simply "liberal" would be the same as calling Jerry Falwell simply "conservative".
