Not even a bios cmos setup screen

I am unable to get any video (also tried another monitor) on a new system. This system has an epox ep-mvp4a (all-in-one) mb with a new viewsonic e771 monitor. System has been unused for a couple months. Win 98 previously installed and booted although I did have some video quirks. Now that I have some time to iron out the wrinkles I cannot even get to the bios setup screen. The pc boots and beeps once and lights the leds properly. The monitor(s) momentarily gives a green and then reverts to yellow.

Any ideas? What happens if I clear my cmos (by jumper)?

are you saying the video is onboard the mobo? if so, then it sounds like that would be the problem, try a generic vid card and see what happens, if youare geting a beep then i think your computer is fine, its just your video thats [/b]fucked[/b] up.

Is you video card an AGP card? Also, it sounds like your board uses a Via chipset. Is your board a socket 7? I had the same problem when trying to install a Matrox Marvel G400 into my socket 7 board. The way I fixed it was by going back to my old video card, which worked fine. (does your video work if you remove the new card and use the onboard vieo?) I then installed the drivers for the new card and shut the system down. After putting the new card back in it worked. If you can enter the bios again by using the onboard video, make sure the proper AGP settings are selected (assuming the new card is AGP....) This might be all it needs.

Oh hell, sorry about that. I misread your problem. I'm a dumbass. I agree with the other reply. Try a cheapy ass card just to see if it works, then check the bios settings. That's all I can think of.

As suggested I tried an old 4mb card without success. I'm stumped. Thanks though.

I stumbled across a solution while reading a msi mb review. That review stated that the system hardware monitoring had triggered a "system hardware abnormal" error which stopped bootup until a key was depressed (while booting). In that case and to quote "the problem was caused by cpu fan monitoring set to enabled in the BIOS. If it doesn't sense a fan, then it pops up that complaint." so .... disable fan moitoring in BIOS
