Not enough CPU?

Well I have this new 6600gt agp and I put it in my computer and it seems to not be running as good as most of the reviews I've read. Do you think that my 2600+ tbred isnt enough cpu for the video card? I had it overclocked (220X9.5) but I didn't see much of a difference on performance. If I overclock it do you think it would help? Your help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Do you think any of my other components are messing it up?

SPECS: 2600+ tbred, abit NF7-S, 1gb (2X512) Geil Value Series PC3200, 300W POWMAX *I just ordered a nice PSU from newegg tonight*, and 6600gt agp

I'd say the AXP 2600 is definitely a bottle neck. What kind of scores are you getting in your games at your prefered resolutions?

alright ones but other people can run ultra high on doom3 i can't do that. but i was thinking that a barton core might solve my problems. i play all my games at 1024X768. when i get out of need for speed underground 2 my cpu has been 100% usage and gets REALLY hot.

Ultra high in Doom 3 on a 6600GT? I can't even do that with my 6800GT and P4 2.4C. :p

I tried the NFS Underground 2 demo, and it ran very well at 1280x1024 with every ingame setting maxed.

Edit - You might want to try the Doom 3 tweaks available, but I'm not really familiar with them. You'd have to search for them.

I'd try some of the Doom 3 tweaks, try searching Google for them.

In all honesty though, it's probably not worth your time to tweak Doom 3 performance. The game itself isn't that good. Try HL2, should be very good performance with that. :)

Try different drivers? This new PSU you ordered from Newegg, its got more juice than the 300watt you listed, I hope?

I'm not sure how much power the 6600GT AGPs draw, but I'd try see how the new PSU works out.

The HL2 stutter problem is known and Valve recommends turning off AA\AF to solve it until they get a patch out.
