Not calling this a "referendum", but it makes me wonder what the right will/should do

How about never mention abortion in any political campaign ever again. It has no bearing on the real issues the country faces and shouldn't be the focal point of any debate in an election year.

This is the lynchpin of why the Conservative Party has governed Canada for coming on ten years now. Their current leader said very unambiguously (I may even be basically quoting this): Abortion will never be a subject of legislation as long as this government exists.

They certainly disappointed a segment of their base, but it was the first big step towards electability in this country.

This. Get rid of those idiot social Conservatives.

The GOP could have done much better with real fiscal Conservatism and social Liberalism

Do you think Ryan hurt or helped Romney? I think it was a pick on par with Palin. Here the guy has a plan to scrap medicare in 10 years. This is what may be needed to save medicare... but the voters don't see it that way. Romney had showed his support for the plan. People don't want to vote for someone who will take away their bennies.

But I do agree.. less emphasis on social issues. Let people get bent if the government allows gay marriage... that is not what is leading us to third world status.
