I am passing on buying the used card, because I want new. I am stuck in between two i found...

EVGA Superclocked 780 ($500)
MSI Lightning 780 ($480)

I am most likely buying a 1440p 27" Dell U2713HM.

Are you taking any other suggestions?

If so, those prices seem a little high. Newegg has an ASUS GTX 780 3GB for $398 AR/AC (GUSGDH89), and it also includes Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. I don't think the two models you have chosen are worth the extra money for a minimal stock overclock.

I think the Lightning has an ACX style cooler so that one gets my vote.

The Lightning is MSI. It's not going to have an ACX cooler. It'll likely have a better PCB though. $500 is too much for a 780 at this point in time, IMO. The Asus DCII is a good suggestion.

The Lightning out of those two, especially if your going to overclock and I have seen some now come with the Hynix memory and the B1 chip.

Derp, thats why I said ACX style. Would it better to say ACXesque or the cooler formerly known as ACX? The point is it doesnt have the slot cooler which is less potent given the open cooler is with adequate case airflow.

Not very similar at all really. Except they are axial fans, I suppose.

None. You wait and see what 970 and 980 will have REALLY to offer and at what price. Then you decide.
