not booting/posting

I was running into seg faults before on ubuntu hoary hedgehog, i think is the name of the release. I'm running it on a p3 1 ghz on an ecs pc6stp-fl board. Right now all it is doing is making a noise from the pc speaker and then it stops. The LEDs on my cd-rw is lighting up.

Any ideas?
