i have a desktop that i stopped using like maybe 2 years ago only because laptop has been more convenient so the desk top was put in storage for that time (not plugged in)
today i went to set it up and it beeped 3 times and then nothing??
desktop is a gateway gt5628 with onboard graphics board

i removed the add on video card = no change

i removed 3 of the 4 memory sticks= no change

any suggestions????

Three beeps would indicate a memory error. When you took out three of the four sticks, did you leave the one stick in the right slot for that configuration? Did you try substituting each of the removed sticks and retry each time? If so, it's probably the controller which means replacing the mb.

Is the primary boot drive a SSD?
AFAIK SSDs are at risk of losing their data is they're not connected to electrical power every once in a while...

Does the system depend on a CMOS battery? In 2 years one could be dead.

This could well be the issue. Although, a well-behaved system should reset to default settings, and at least POST and show a warning that CMOS settings are incorrect, and to go into SETUP and fix them. So it could be well more than just a battery. OTOH, poorly-designed systems will not POST without a working CMOS battery, so take your pick.
