Not booting after BIOS update

I have a new system with the MSI nForce4 SLI Platinum motherboard. I was running BIOS version 3.0 and LiveUpdate downloaded and installed 3.1 for me in Windows. When I went to reboot my computer, the system posted fine but when it went to boot into Windows, it loaded some of the drivers but stopped and did not go into Windows. When trying to boot using Safe Mode, I could see Windows loading the drivers and stopping at DRIVERS\agpCPQ.sys (if that's of any use). I also noticed that it had been trying to load the drivers from my C drive from my old computer (now me E drive) instead of the current C drive. When I disconnected my E drive, it was now loading the drivers from the correct drive, but still not starting up. I did not have the old BIOS or new BIOS on a floppy disk so could not try flashing again, but I can do that today if that's what the problem is. Is this a BIOS problem or more of a Windows problem? Any suggestions?

First of all you need to enter BIOS setup, and do a "Load Optimal Defaults" (or similar).

Exactly like he said, you have to access your BIOS, and 'load setup defaults' or 'load optimal defaults' before you flash the new BIOS.

Now you probably have to reflash your BIOS using the floppy.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. All I have is a floppy with the new BIOS and a Windows XP CD. Do I need some sort of boot disk too or will this be fine?

Also, I've read that stopping while loading that particular AGP driver that I mentioned is a known Windows XP issue on the Microsoft website, and booting with the Windows CD, going into Windows Recovery and disabling the loading of that driver can fix the problem, too. So I'll also give that a try.

Anybody else have any more suggestions? I'm trying to come up with as many potential solutions while I'm at work with computer access so that hopefully one of them will solve it when I'm able to work on my computer later on.
