Not being able to use external SMTP servers using Cox cable really sucks...

Now all of my mailing list subscriptions don't work and I have to screw with the reply-to when replying to client emails at home.

Anyone else find it extremely annoying?

Yeah it is really annoying, and what's even more annoying is the fact that in my area sometimes they work, and sometimes they don't.... And cox's SMTP server goes down for days at a time and I have to switch it back... very annoying.

Yes, I don't want to get rid of my bellsouth addy and charter won't let me use their SMTP to send bellsouth e-mail. I have to use my evanhyde.com mail server.

In outlook(OE) just fill in the email address as "myemail"@cox.net and the reply to as "myemail"@NOTcox.net.

Really, how hard is that?

Well, considering I use two accounts: one for personal, another for business, very.

When I'm working from home I want to reply to work/mailing list e-mails with the reply-to set to my work address. For personal, I want it to remain as normal.

If you know of an email client that will allow me to use a single account and dynamically associate a reply-to based on the to, I'm all ears.

Pretty hard when their SMTP servers go down and your email just sits in your outbox for days.

Doubtful. Media companies have full legal to restrict the services their customers use; quite unlike telephone companies (last I checked).

So I'm filtered on incoming port 25, 80, 110, and a handful of others, and now I'm filtered on port 25 outgoing.

You're still in Tulsa right?

Just wondering because it works for me and I'm in the Tulsa area using Cox.

all you have to do is set the outgoing mail server for your other account as smtp.region.cox.net and everything will work perfectly without having to screw with reply to or anything else... not that difficult...

Yup, I am. I can't hit anything external on port 25. This started for me just today, but I remember reading a notice a few weeks back.

Well, then if you can tell Cox to allow me to use their smtp server remotely as well, I'm golden; else, I'm still screwed.

I explained why above.

[edit]From what I gather, Cox blocks access to their smtp server from any source IP outside of their network, so I can't send when I'm not at home.[/edit]

Odd....I haven't seen a problem yet. Wonder if I'm just lucky so far. I have to say that overall I have been impressed with their service. On occasion I've called in when they were having DNS problems and had a tech try to talk down to me. They usually straighten up though when I tell them what I do for a living.

Here's hoping I don't suffer your fate. I work from home a lot.......
