Not bad! 3.0GHz 800 FSB + Mobo $179 @ Fry's

Just went to Fry's and saw a 3.0C bundled with an ECS mobo (848-A) for $179. Also I talked to the guy and he said it could also be bundled with the MSI PT880 for $209.

Both are crappy mobo's, but a 3.0C will run you about $189 off pricewatch just by itself.

Cheers!

edit:

looks like it's a 3.0E, sorry to mislead you guys like that

Is the E really that bad? Anand's review said it was 5% slower or something in that range.

More important question, what is the best bang for the buck for this price range? Please be specific...

Don't know the SKU, it closed before I could go there again today, but I'll take a look tomorrow.

Are you sure it wasn't an E?

Actually I'm not sure, but I'll look into it too when I go there tomorrow.

I don't think you could see any performance difference. But prescotts run much warmer compared to the Northwoods.

I went to phoenix frys this weekend and they had this combo for the same price...E core...i got one 😀

Got one yesterday at the Bay Area Fry's. The sales guy woudln't let me subsitute any other MB's with it... didn't really want the ECS board, but can't beat the price.

you aren't missing much the pt880 the guy down here said i could sub it for looks just as bad as the ecs

The MSI PT880 may not compare to the overclock ability of the 865PE/875P chipsets but it is on-par with their performance at stock speeds and can overclock slightly. It is also dual channel vs single channel on the ECS motherboard. The Soyo deal may be interesting but note it is not Precott approved, but would work ok for the northwood cpu.
