Hey Mark,

I think you're fine with the games you got. There are several SW games and I sometime have trouble remembering which games I have played  But I enjoyed 'em. Let's say they're easier to finish than D3 ;)

Down the road, rethink KoTOR. It's not like any other RTS/RPG I've played. It looks alot like an FPS, and gives you "moral" choices like DE as well as character improvements. Albeit these are mostly done through new/enhanced force powers (in DE you get biomod upgrade for enhanced healing/med, in KoTOR it's enhanced "force-healin", pretty similar to me).

In fact, it plays so much like a FPS shooter that my nephew tried to play it like one while I stood by LMAO. In KoTOR, when you're in combat, the characters rspond themselves (shooting, throwing grenades etc- actually they do respond to the commands you give them) - he thought he needed to aim etc for them and couldn't figure out why the controls/keyboard was fvcked up.

KoTOR neither looks nor plays like any RTS/RPG I've played and it does have some similarities to DE which is prolly why I liked it so much.

Regarding Painkiller, I just got this (and BOH expansion pack) for Xmas and have been enjoying it so far. It's an almost mindless (gotta find those secret areas and Holy secrets/icons) FPS, like I thought D3 w/b. Plays real smooth with good graphics and nice sounds too.

Have a nice weekend,

Fern

Thanks, Craig . . . . with all the rain Cali is getting - we usually get 6 inches an entire year in our hi-desert . . . . we got that just from ONE storm a couple of weeks back! And it ain't stopping (so my work is/has been futzed) - i just may rethink my stance on RTS/RPGs with all the eXtra time i got. :p

Anyway, i am back from an all-day trip to San Diego (in the rain . . . . took 50% longer) and will settle into Jedi Outkast . . . . . Probably FarCry or Painkiller is next - whic ever hits the bargain bin first) and maybe the rain will stop by then . . . .

:D

thanks to all for your suggestions!

Painkiller was what I was going to recommend. I LOVE that game, it's crazy fun in the vein of Serious Sam. Lots of monster gore. :D

What the hell is this?

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II with Bonus!

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II

With bonus?

* The Sith Lords is the next chapter to Knights of the Old Republic; winner of more than 35 "Game of The Year Awards" featuring an all-new and perilous storyline set approximately 4,000 years before Star Wars Episode I.

* All-new Force powers, weapons, locations, characters and classes add to the richness of this next epic installment.
* Choose from three different classes of Jedi to start the game with access to specific Jedi abilities.

* Choose the light or the dark side of the Force based on your characters actions as you progress through the story. The choices you make not only affect your character, but also those in your party, and those who may join you in your quest.

* Cameo appearances from memorable characters of the first game enhance the continuity and story flow through this unique time period.

* Developed by Obsidian Entertainment, the development house founded by members of the Fallout, Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate, Dark Alliance, and Planescape: Torment teams.

Is this a new one or just an expansion? (ships Feb 8)

2nd edit :

Looks new!

(!)

if it keeps on raining (and the reviews are good) i may finally get another RTS.

:D

Why?

My usual M.O. is to play the latest game if it is well-reviewed and then go back and play earlier games if i like it . . . . . or is that bass-ackward?

i really don't mind going back to gfx from late '02-'03 . . . . as i said before, the q3 engine provides sufficient realism for me to enjoy a good game.

Looks like after KoTOR II in Feb, there is BATTLEFIELD 2 PCHB/DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil Expansion Pack (i WON'T be getting this one)/Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory are due in March, FEAR/Team Fortress 2/STALKER are due in May, GTA-SA/Black & White 2/Ghost Recon II are due in June

Lots to look forward to BUT lots of time in-between for bargain bin. ;)

OK, the log fire is roaring and i'm gonna play Jedi Outcast after lunch. :)

KOTOR II for PC is a must have for me. I'll be buying it the day it hits the shelves. I have a $20 GC at BestBuy just waiting for the day.

Well, mark your calendar - February 8 . . . . i doubt this one will get delayed (or it's souce code stolen).

By the time i finish JKii:JO (and maybe 007 Nightfire or Rainbow 6), KoTOR II will be out and you fans will have reviewed it . . . . and i will reconsider my "ban" on RPB/RTS games. :)

KoTOR is the last game that made me lose sleep for a couple of weeks- even after I beat the game the first time I was still losing sleep on my second and third play through. Game was so good I bought it twice @$50- for the XBox when it first came out and then when it came out for the PC. The storyline is the best in any game that has come out in the last few years, combat system rocks and all of the choices you are allow significantly different ways of playing through the game. I would say that KoTOR is the best game to have come out in the last couple of years, easily vastly superior to D3/HL2/H2 and the rest of the overhyped underdelivering titles we have seen this year.

I have KoTOR2 sitting here now and have been waiting for the chance to get a good block of time freed up before I get into it. Been so busy at work I haven't had the time to devote a few 10 hour blocks to it(even if I gave up sleep all together). JK:II and JK:JA are also very good titles, again I would say that either one of them are better gameplay wise then the big three overhyped shooters from this year. Once you get your lightsaber in them, you will likely find the game better played in third person then the typical FP perspective just to let you know- having the Jedi combined with swordplay makes third person a more desireable perspective IMO(you have the choice- although I believe it defaults to auto third by default).

TR:AoD is disgustingly poor. First off- it will choke hard on your rig. The game is extremely poorly coded and a 9800XT doesn't have nearly enough power to push it decently at reasonable settings. The engine is actually much better then the gameplay though- the game is by far the worse I have seen in years. It is so bad that Eidos will no longer let the company that developed it handle the TR franchise anymore and they are the ones that created the franchise in the first place(should tell you how bad it is).

I'd recommend No One Lives Forever 2 and Tron 2.0 - not SW material, mind you, but solid (bargain-bin) games nontheless.

Damn, after that post, i just HAD to install TR:AoD. :p

The game runs fine on my 9800xt (unless you consider 10x7 and everything 'hi' and 'on' and 'max', unreasonable settings):p

However, the gameplay is TERRIBLE .. . . . the controls and camera angles are AWFUL. Pretty but awful (reminds me of Doom iii - but at least you knew in what direction you were heading).

JKII:JO is VERY good . . . i will also consider Jedi Academy and certainly KoTOR II (after the reviews are in).

EB Games has some great close-out prices

Star Wars: Jedi Knight Dark Forces II & Star Wars: Dark Forces (Jewel Case), for $1.99 each (ripped from Hot Deals - plus many more bargain bin games)

. . . and I have played NOLF II . . . great game .. .. . heard good and bad things about Tron 2.

Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Those who give up on KoTOR before they leave the first planet have denied themselves what very well may be the greatest game of all time. From time to time, things in your everyday life will remind you of something in KoTOR, and you'll think "Well what if I had gotten that droid and taken it somewhere else?"

The possibilities are endless. I've played through 3 or 4 times, and I think you could probably go through at least 8 times before doing absolutely everything.

Good news KoTOR II is out Feb 8 and a new thread devoted to it:

100% DirectX 9.0c compatible computer.

Operating Systems:
Windows 98 SE, Millennium (ME), 2000, and XP.

CPU:
Pentium III or Athlon class 1 GHz or faster required.
Pentium 4 or Athlon XP class 1.6 GHz or faster recommended.

256 MB RAM required.
512 MB RAM recommended

Graphics Card:
32 MB OpenGL 1.4 compliant AGP or PCX 3D Graphics card with Hardware Transform and Lighting (T&L) Capability required.

doesn't look too demanding (probably the latest Unreal II engine) . . . . . except on your time. :p

Anyway, i am STILL playing Jedi Outkast and a little miffed at the jumping crap buit it is still a very good game and rather challenging and LONG.
