I wanted to ask before I buy. My friend's CD-ROM is going, I thought it'd be a good time to upgrade to a DVD-RAM and give him my LG CD burner (which is still great). I am interested in the Toshiba SD-R5372 as seen here.

Any advice before I buy? I'd put some more into it, if you think it'd be worthwhile but I don't really need any bells or whistles (I don't mind labelling with sharpies). The one drawback I've read about these drives is that they don't overburn, but I don't know how much of an issue that is since I'm just getting into DVD burning technology. Here's a review that recommended them well.

TIA for any help.

I have Benq 1620 and love it. Very few PIE's and PIF's

Do a google search and you'll find some reviews.

Also check out the cdfreaks forum which has a dedicated section for the NEC and the Benq

The toshiba & the NEC both look good @ about $60 -- but did you see the price of the Plextor they picked as #1, its $126.99 -- think about how many blank DVD's you could get with the money you save

Yeah, I'd say the NEC seems the best from the reviews I've read googling. The BenQ was rated really well on NewEgg, but a lot of people seem to be reporting slagged disks. It could be that the NewEgg people had better installation skills.

EDIT: Thanks again for the assistance. I decided on the NEC.
