Not all AM2+ mobos compatible with Phenom II 920 (AM2+)?

I tried the CPU on an EVGA board, and it was a no go - POSTed once, for a few seconds, that's it. Currently have it running on a cheapie Biostar AM2+/AM3 mobo. Shouldn't every board supporting AM2+ socket be OK with this CPU? Or am I missing something?

Usually, they need a BIOS update before they will work with the newer chips (Phenom II, etc.). It is true that some motherboard makers did not release BIOS updates for certain motherboards to allow the newer processors to work. Check & see if you have the latest BIOS for the EVGA board.

What EVGA motherboard?

IIRC, the PhII X4 920 is a 125w CPU, and it may be that your EVGA mobo does not support 125w CPUs.

I have an AM2 (not even a "+") board that supports Phenom II processors after a simple BIOS update. Unfortunately, I could not find any BIOS information on the EVGA board.

Well, I thought I had searched thoroughly on their site... I must be blind, lol! Thanks for providing the info for the OP. :)

OP -- Looks like you will be able to use the Phenom II's. ;)

Thanks, guys. Too bad I already returned the board. :'( In any case, difficult to flash the BIOS when the board won't POST. I'd have to find a CPU that worked to begin with. Sigh.
