Facing the media, Diaz talked in Spanish about his years in maximum-security prisons as an assumed sexual predator.
''It was very dangerous,'' he said. "Sometimes I had to lie about why I was there. Sometimes I maintained my innocence.''
Jose was 14 when his father went to trial. As his father suffered in prison, Jose suffered in middle school.
''My best friend betrayed me,'' he said. "Girls looked at me like I was the son of the Bird Road Rapist. Parents would tell their kids to stay away from us...There is a legacy left behind. We've all been victims.''
