not able to access internet

hi everyone
i recently installed a ethernet LAN card on my system. with windows 98 as O.S
i installed all the drivers along with the IP address in TCP/IP
but even then i am not able to access the internet.

what should i do to get the internet access.
 
What IP address did you put it? Are you connected to a modem or router? Are you suppose to maybe have the nic set to pick up its settings via DHCP? Need more details on the setup.
