"OMG, I sooooo listened to this band first, now they're popular! OMG, I hate how everyone likes it now, they were mine! i'm going to find a new inde band to listen to now."

it's a cultural phenomenon known as "backlash". Basically, when something becomes really popular, people will say they love it just to fit in, or be into it JUST because it's popular. Other people hate these people and see them as being stupid. As such, they make a point of DISliking whatever it is, I guess as a way to "balance out" the other people, and avoid being confused for them.
