This is what I got in email, fortunately I have not clicked on any link. Is it real message or another scam.

Posted in this forum because I thought it would be helpful for everyone.

I get these every day. Paypal will never send you an email asking you to click on a link. Only under extreme circumstances will they send you an email asking you to log in to your account, but even then they tell you to type in the URL in your browser instead of clicking any email links.

Such a scam...why don't you send me your username and password and I will set up your preferences so that you don't get these emails anymore...

😉

** this is just a joke!!! **

An employee of Paypal? No doubt. Did you know that once your money is transferred regardless of whom, it cannot be reversed. Paypal then freezes your account and ask for your identification to be faxed or mailed to them. Its so absurb!!! They know your account is jacked but will not work to resolve it and shift the blame on you instead. Paypal is evil, do not keep any amount in their at all time, and don't link to an account that has much money in it. Better to open a second bank account with little money in it incase disaster happens.

Paypal is the devil working behind these scam.

I believe that email is either viral related, or some sort of phishing attempt at getting people's Credit Card info and paypal account info. Pay Pal has even issued statements that they will never send out emails asking for such info.

If it is a virus, which I think it probably is, then clicking the link will pull up a generic form asking for various financial details, then sends the answers to some far off email address.

Isn't there a more suitable forum for this thread since this Email in no way constitutes as a HOT Deal.

Well, theres my dos pennies.

geez, i thought these threads died off months ago. Yes, it's a scam.

Instead of asking, why not just type www.paypal.com in the browser yourself and see if paypal has any messages for you. If your account has been suspended you'll see that when you log in. :disgust:

I disagree. If you have a head on your shoulders and use the service properly, you have nothing to worry about. Yes it's possible to get your account hacked but most of those cases are user error and only a handful are unavoidable.

Quick tip: open a new bank account just for paypal. Every time you get a certain amount of money that you don't need sitting in paypal (i.e. pending payment to someone for something), deposit it into your bank account. Then transfer funds from your paypal bank account to another totally unrelated bank account. Logic my friend.

Also, don't get a premier accout unless you absolutely have to or have a damn good reason to do so. It's a rip-off and paypal cc payments is where the real problems occur.

whatever that starts with 'dear paypal user' is guranteed to be a scam. paypal addresses you with your on your account.

Paypal always addresses you by your name.

They never say:

Dear Paypal User,

It is Always

Dear [INSERT NAME],

So just automatically delete the ones that say Paypal user.

I am really starting to hate Paypal myself. My account for some reason got flagged and I had to fax them my drivers license and my bank statements. Yet they still would not unlock my account. Now they want receipts and invoices of the items I have sold. Problem is some of the items I got off this forum and craigslist so I dont have a receipt or an invoice.

I tried and call and told them there is no way I can get it because I am not the original owner. They said to contact the person you bought it from, but I had since deleted their messages, so this is really a pain in the ass. I still have a locked account with almost 4K in there and I cant withdraw it. THOSE BASTARDS!!!

And this is why you withdraw money long before you reach that amount or something like that happens.

I'm not defending Paypal; I agree it's not the best service but if you use it in a smart fashion, it's very convenient. I try to never keep more than $100 in my paypal account at any given time.

Paypal cannot freeze your bank account can they? Also, I wouldn't think they could withdraw money from your bank account without your consent. Couldn't you just tell your bank they were not authorized to do so?

They can't freeze your bank account. They can get the money that you put in your bank account if the Payment is constested or is from a stolen bank account or credit card.

I really do dislike Paypal, but everybody seems to need to pay by credit card now and that is what keeps Paypal in business.

They are phishing ... The real clue is the link address ... it never comes from paypal.com or citibank.com .. it is an IP address (no domain name) or some weird address from www.heyufuj.com/~/paypal-secure.com/login/ etc.. or www.cisec.or.kr ; Here they ask you for information on a page with the logos and graphics from the legit website.
If you ever doubt don't click on the link in the email, go to paypal.com (or whatever website) and log in to your account as you normally would.

Good advice. That's exactly how I run the PayPal account I set up for my dealings in FS/FT. I also use the PayPal-linked bank account as my "firewall" account. When I'm buying something online, I transfer just enough cash into the account to cover the purchase right before I buy it, so that if the card number is somehow compromised no one can steal more than a few dollars out of the account.
