i'm not watching it because i have limited time. but i'm kind of glad it's started.

http://www.surfspot.com/media/reef/reef.html

it has a live video-audio feed. the Triple Crown is a series of 3 contests. one is
at Sunset Beach, one is at Pipeline, i forget the other one.

last year the Pipeline finals were spectacular. World #2 Andy Irons, having lost
the 2006 title to Kelly Slater, went hyper-aggressive to get the good waves,
and put on an incredible performance.

there was a tube ride going right (the part called Backdoor) and another one
going left (Pipeline proper, i think). at the end of the one going left, AI (Andy)
took off on a wisp of foam that was just f-ing incredible. technically i guess
that was a "floater". you could see his happiness expressing itself in his
surfing.

apparently, Andy hassled another surfer Rob Machado, who was in the
final. there was an interview where Rob talks about that. this came
back to haunt Andy, because Rob got a wild card into the event near
San Clemente. and Andy drew Rob. and Rob's a good surfer.

so, between personalities and the actual surfing, it's kind of interesting.

The other event is the current one, the Reef Hawaiian pro at Haleiwa. Even though the first two are only WQS events, they still are a blast to watch. The final event is an ASP event and even though it wont decide the ASP champ this year, its always one of the best events (if not the best) of the year to watch.

I will miss the contest by a couple of weeks, but atleast I will get good surf when I am there.
