Nostilogic gaming build

Hey guys,

I currently use a Macbook for main task but I have been itching to play some old games. When I mean old, I mean, Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Planescape Torment, Command and Conquer series etc....

I don't want to dual boot and I'd like to build a power conscious PC that can play games. I think the only new game I will be playing is Diablo 3 when it comes out.

Any suggestions? I don't really have a bias but I prefer Intel currently. Budget is under 400. Monitor, keyboard, mouse, and OS do not need to be considered.

Hmmm old games + Diablo 3 is going to be hard, especially with D3 so far away. I would say to use DosBox on your Mac for the really old games and get an old Win98 era machine off of ebay for the slightly newer ones. Yeah the older PCs aren't going to get as many FLOPS/Watt as a newer machine, but as long as you get something pre-P4, the total power draw is going to be quite reasonable. Save the rest of the money until we know what D3 is going to require.

Three words for you:
THAT'S. NOT. OLD.

sorry, just had to say that... those aren't old games. I have a passion for old games... ACTUAL old games. Raptor: call of the shadows, XCOM: UFO defense, Cyber Empires, Commander Keen 1-5, that sort of thing.

As for a computer that will run what you are speaking of: ignore D3 until it comes out and then worry about it, and get something like a P3 1GHz used for the games you listed, and install win95 or linux with wine on it.

That will run D3. Will it max it out? Remains to be seen.
