I've been having lots of problems with Norton Internet Security 2009 so ditched it and good riddance to it too. I am currently testing Microsoft Security Essentials and have found it to be excellent. Well done Microsoft! :)

I Had my computer totally crash, and as a lark, I decided to try microsoft security essentials as an initial security system.

I downloaded it, not bad at slightly under 8 MB, but it totally failed to update the definition on dial up internet access. So in my mind, its not yet ready for prime time. At least on dial up. It would simply abort and abort without remembering what was initially downloaded.

Too late now, I put on a more conventional freeware security system, so why should I ever go back to something that can't update?

I swear, if Norton's didnt come pre-installed on OEM systems, I dont know how they would make money, as I have certainly made enough from cleaning up after it.....I recommend all my client to say clear of anything Nortons.
There are far better security or a/v suites out there, Nod32 for one!

If you kept up with reviews, you'd know NOD32 is a lackluster product. You'd also know Norton 2010 is pretty much the best suite out there at the moment. The only product to come close is Kaspersky 2010 and I've read a lot of people are having issues with system slowdowns on Kaspersky.

I'm just using the new Microsoft product. Reviews are good. Its finding things in all the spam attachments I get so it seems to be working.

Windows firewall is fine or throw comodo firewall on top and it seems good to me.

I've been using only Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials right now. I went to this from running a combination of Avira AV and numerous anti spyware applications. It's so much less annoying having only one program to update and scan(which can be configured to be fully automatic). MSE isn't a walking advertisement like many of the other free programs either, and it doesn't require a handful of silly administrator settings changes like Avira does just to be bearable.

I've been using Kaspersky since version 5 and have strictly been with it ever since. On my 5th year on the license and plan on keeping it for a long time to come.

Avira, Malwarebits and Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall, behind a router.
Works for me.

Trying Windows Security Suite W/Win7 and not liking it.
