Anyone using NU with NTFS? Is it fully compatible?

I didn't find out until after I bought System Works Pro that Ghost in fact isn't completely compatible with NTFS. So now I'm checking NU thoroughly.

When I go to the knowledge base on the Symantec website it lists 2 versions of Utilities, 2002 for 98/ME and 2002 for NT/2K/XP, but I can't find any references in the help files that about two different versions. I also can't find any info on my CD as to which version it is, it just says System Works 2002. I can find a build number and a version number in the readme file, but I can't find any reference to that on the website to find out if that version is for NT/XP and NTFS. The website just says 2002.

Are there really 2 versions or not? I can't figure it out. Also, are there any caveats like there are with Ghost?

There have been a number of posts regarding Norton 2002 Pro and problems with NTFS file type posted on this forum, but I couldn't find them with several search phrases.

I know of only one version of Norton 2002 Pro. I have it for use on 98SE, and it is flawless with 98SE on my system.

One problem cited was that you could image an NTFS partition, but couldn't write that image to an NTFS partition - only to cd media. That's confusing to me, since it implies problems with image restoration to NTFS partition also.

Several stated that DriveImage was definitely the way to go for NTFS imaging/restoring. No NTFS problems whatsoever.

Sorry I couldn't offer better help.

Thanks, maybe I wasn't clear.
I know about the Ghost problems. I'm wondering about any Utilities problems.

I had an old extra drive so I loaded Win 2k on to test some software.

Norton Utilities loaded fine and looks like it will work but when you try to use any of the disk tools, it says that something is accessing the disk and it can't continue. This is a fresh load of 2k with almost no other software loaded. Norton Antivirus loaded with Utilities so it is running but the error persists even if I disable antivirus. Has anyone seen this?

Image restoration is a different problem, the entire partition gets wiped out so Ghost has no issue writing out NTFS volumes. The only issue, which you noticed, is that it currently will not image to a file stored on an NTFS drive on the local machine (you can, of course, backup over the network to a Ghost server who then stores the data on an NTFS drice).

As for NU, 2002 is fully compatible with NTFS. If you run into anything weird, drop me a line (in one of my former lives I was the architect on NU team).
