When i first installed Norton Systemworks it was fine until it got to the liveupdate installation.

When i hit that it could not install for some reason, and had problems throughout its time of being installed for the period of 2 weeks.

I tried to un-install it repeatedly, but had no luck.

Now ive manually removed everything of it, and when i try to re-install it I am recieving the following error:

This installation package could not be opened. Contact the vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package.

Any ideas whats wrong?

Plz help :(

Dan :(

Do a search for the error message on Symantec's website. I've usually found every error message I've encountered on there with the solution.

I had the same problem with one of my comps when a virus corrupted norton.

Pain in the butt things I had to do:
Manually go through the registry, and remove all norton keys.
Delete all assosciated Norton files (C:\program files\norton systemworks), but lo and behold, that doesn't work, because some files are loaded into memory. So I deleted all I could, then booted to the DOS prompt with a Win ME boot disk, and went into the folder and got rid of the rest of the stuff ( 2 .dll's if i remember correctly).

After that, norton successfully re-installed itself without error.

I wasn't getting the same error you were, and it may not help, but hopefully it will, or at least shed some light on it.

I have a bad feeling when I re-installed XP a couple of weeks ago things went a bit dodgy.

I recieved errors in the setup and have now managed to link them to my windows installer problems.

Im planning on re-installing windows on Tuesday :D
