Here we go yet again... is it time to update your virus definition subscription? Get them while they are FREE after 4 rebates! Sale and rebates end 12/18/04 or while supplies last @ CompUSA. CompUSA is having penny shipping this week too!

1. Buy McAfee VirusScan 2005 on it's own receipt.

2. Buy Norton Systemworks 2005 on it's own receipt.

3. Send McAfee product information to Norton's Mfg Upgrade Rebate for $30 rebate.

4. Send in for Norton's $40 Mfg Rebate.

5. Send Norton product information to McAfee's Mfg Upgrade Rebate for $30.

6. Send in for McAfee's Mfg Rebate for $20.

Of course you are probably not going to need 2 virus scanners, so you can sell one of them.

I haven't used Mcafee antivirus for a few years because Norton has been all the rage. Does anyone have an opinion of Mcafee vs. Norton?

hmm, I need another license to be legal. I've already done a free Systemworks and a free Firewall through Outpost. Can I do a second and will they honor the second rebates?

Norton is always doing this, they just choose a "store of the week" to offer their software for free. So far, in the past month, I know it's been Outpost, Best Buy, now Compusa. Circuit city's probably next week

you just have to read the rebate form.. from what I've read before it's like 1 rebate per household or something like that. So if it's actually another rebate you're sending in (different numbers) then you'll be fine.

It doesn't say that they will accept McAfee VirusScan as previous ownership. Please clarify.

Myotis, you don't need a license for either. You buy both products and use each other to competitively upgrade to the other. In other words, the Norton you buy is used as proof of owning software from a competitor of McAfee, to be able to send for the McAfee rebate. Likewise, the McAfee you buy is used as proof of owning software from a competitor of Norton, to be able to send for the Norton rebate.

I would have confirmed the rebate pdf's exact info on competive upgrade, but both rebate links pop-up a password request to open, so I can't. Anyone else have this problem? The McAfee competitive upgrade info that scoreadeal posted looks good, but we need confirmation of Norton's competitive upgrade accepting McAfee. It should, but I always like seeing it in b&w first before buying.

No kidding -
The links worked for me earlier. I think I just misunderstood the usage of the word "Upgrade". I took it to mean that the software was not a full version. Looking at it now, however, it seems to make sense.
