System works sucks. This is NOT a hot deal unless you are eager to slow your system down and crash often.

No, SystemWorks rocks. Disable the crash guard, which is a piece of crap. The rest is fantastic... you get the newest version of Antivirus (which costs more than this anyway), disk doctor (which has saved my ass dozens of times), windows doctor (which fixed several bizarre windows problems i could never pin down), and a bunch of other utilities you may or may not use.

Just don't enable all the monitoring tools, and you won't see ANY system degradation at all.

NOTE that if you read the fine print on the rebate, it's for users of previous versions of Norton products... be careful.

Thanks man, I just installed McAffee Office on my system and it locked it up tighter than sh*t. I had to wrestle it to get my PC back and had to brute force the uninstall. Last time I try Mcafee. I've had Norton's before and I should never have left.

BTW, regarding the UPGRADE rebate...What I've done in the past if I didn't have the old version, is to find an old version on Egay for $5 or so. Gotta watch out which versions are qualified for the upgrade rebate. Also, this wouldn't be worth the hassle for $10 rebate, but for for a larger one, like the $50 PCAnywhere rebate, it is.

For this $20 rebate I wouldn't do it, but some might.

Just don't ever download software like this off the net (as purchase)..
you won't have proof of ownership for the upgrade (no disk or manual).
And the sites only let you download like (3) times and thats it. SO if you reformat a few times your sol. I really felt ripped off when I downloaded the Norton Utilities2000. Always buy the disk. IMO.

I need to purchase it again now... so thanks for the HU on this one!

Another thing with msbcd.com. They often have a large inventory of the old versions. I'll try to find out what you can put in the comments field of the order, but they might be able to send you an older version of Norton Utilities to use as your Upgrade material. It worked for me.

Cybordolphin, when you download the software, do they erase the installation file afterward? Anyway, the last time I upgraded SystemWorks, a screen-shot of the software was sufficient to fulfill the requirement.

Thanks for that bit of input. I will remember to use the "screenshot" idea when I upgrade.

I am just really pissed off that I can no longer use the software that I downloaded. The certificate that you place on your computer when you download.... does not always want to copy, and it is just a pain to reuse the software that I paid for. I should be able to use the software on my system as many times as I want to. If I choose to reformat my drive 1x or 100x's... that software was bought and paid for. I will never download a software like this again. It is better to have the disk. (shareware is a different story).
