Norton LiveUpdate won't update

for the past couple days norton liveupdate has not been able to update my software. i have system works 2005 and personal firewall 2005, i am running windows XP pro and .net framework1.1. i looked around on symantec's support site but found nothing, is there anything i can do short of an uninstall?

What exactly does happen when you try? Have you checked your HOSTS file for bogus entries designed to keep you away from security-related sites? C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc\HOSTS, open it with Notepad and scroll to the bottom to be sure there isn't stuff that doesn't belong. You should ordinarily see just 127.0.0.1 localhost, and some remarks above that.

liveupdate runs and connects to the symantec server, but after it is mayb 40% thru, it just stops and does not progress any further.

i think i am going to uninstall it, and try to install again. maybe this will work out ok.

this is the only IP named in the file C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc\HOSTS.
