LiveUpdate on my System Works is acting very strange. I can't install any of the Updates other than the anti-virus ones. The symantec web site is of little help.

I am using winXP by the way.

Anyone else having this same issue?

It is giving me an error that it cannot complete the update. The updates are for Norton Utilities and Speed Disk. It just cannot install them.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I have to ask when I try to help around here ;) Are these 'legit' versions, some of the 'warez' versions are based on very late beta copies but aren't identical to the release versions. As such the patching will fail as the original files aren't exactly as expected. What version of System Works are we talking about?

This issue popped up recently, and seems confined to WinXP. I'm using win98SE and my system is not affected.

The problem seems to be Symantec Redirector, downloaded by Live Update.

I think you'll find threads about this if you search using 'redirector'.

Sorry I can't help further.

Hope this helps!

And those case where due to late beta's floating around as 'released copies' in the warez groups. Thats why I asked (that turned out to be the problem in the other threads too).

I have version 5 of system works 2002 I bought at the store. I first had trouble with redirector but after un-installing and re-installing it has bothered me since. Maybe it is something peculiar to my system.

Guys, I won't be back in the office (Symantec) until Wednesday, but I'll send some mail and corral some people and see if anyone's heard of this.

Any further word on this? I have the same problem on two different Win2000 SP2 systems.

I had the same problem about 4 or 5 months ago and I was able to re-create it. But If I'm not mistaken, here goes.

The Live update works/use an IE window to do the updates, and several scripts that Live update uses can cause it to go array if you do multiple updates at the same time. Like when you install the program for the first time and it needs to do multiple updates.

Try this, de-install you programs either NIS, NAV or Systemworks. When you run the Live updates, Only update the programs first and only one at the time. Dont update the definitions. Once all the programs are updated, run live update to update the NAV/NIS definitions or whatever. Then your Live update should run normally again.

NicColt has the solution.
I had to uninstall, then allow the install to complete, but when it said could not update, shut it down and rebooted.
I then installed Norton's Antivirus 2002 and manually went to www.Symantec.com to update the virus definitions.
It then updated all the rest and the Liveupdate is not working .
Thy going to Symantec and downloading the lates update.
Than allow it to run rather than save the download.

But the original issue brought up in the thread is that the updates that can't be installed are for Speed Disk, and N Utilities. If you hit details when the error comes up, it says for speed disk it's for 2K. and for utilities it's for NT. We are running XP. so I'm not too worried about it, unless Symantec is lying to us. :p

I run Win2K SP2 and am also suffering this problem. The thing is I've been running it since around November and have not had any issues until about 3 weeks ago. I have tried all the suggested methods from the symantec support site to resolve the issue, i.e. run the updates separately for each component to no avail. I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times with no solution.

Anyone get a working fix for this?

Anyone?

Bueller?

I'm not running any registry cleaners unless Norton cleansweep is considered that. However the issue with liveupdate has been happening since a few reinstalls ago at which time I was not running any of the cleansweep components, just utils and NAV.
