Norton is a resource hog, especially the suite. I had to remove (sometimes not easy) 2007 from mom's PC to get it to run at a usable speed.

P4 3G 256m, I ran all my free anti-malware programs which found tons of stuff the suite let in, but removals did not help.
Did a HJT with advisor, nothing major. Added 512M ot ram, no faster.
Removed Norton Suite, installed AVG free, ran like a super computer in comparision.
No problems since (months), but it is time I ran my programs.
I have removed Norton from friends PCs, very happy. I hate Norton.

Besides what Norton can do to a PC, what Norton Suite does not keep out of your PC, how hard it can be to remove, they have the nerve to charge for it, repeatably.

Did I mention I don't think Norton is worth paying anything for.

I am not a fan of any security suite. The point being, hackers will concentrate on ways to exploit them, and keep refining their wares, until their test bed computers running a given suite can be reliably hacked.

Be unpredictable is my mantra. Its been working very very well for me. And I hate resource hungry products and therefore I hate Norton.

And Norton tech support=forget it.

I really can't believe that people call NIS 2007 and 2008 a resource hog.

After the initial update check (which can be disabled), and the Quick Scan running after every definition update, I do not experience any slowdowns.

Am running the NIS 2007 on 3 computers, one is a Compaq Laptop with Vista HP 32 and Sempron 2.0GHz CPU.

I feel relatively "safe", and have not had any problems for over 1 year.

If you only want to use the free apps, go ahead. I believe that Norton is keeping the "bad guys" away, as much as any other Internet Security program, and more.

And it was "free" after rebates, BTW.

Go to pcguide.com & search Norton+ budfred (Moderator/HJT advisor) or pop pop. They have more posts (experiance) than I will ever have.

Ditto times 10. The best software they have is the Norton removal tool. That alone has fixed at least 8 computers for me. The only reason I don't mention it more often is that there is at least one very helpful ATer that works for them.
