How does Norton Ghost backup the current Windows drive while its in use? What if do lots of things while it's backing up the same drive such as uninstall lots of programs, won't the completed backup reflect this or have errors?

Most of the imaging programs like Ghost or TrueImage can "freeze" the operating files in use so the entire partition/drive can be backed up. You should never be making changes to the drive (uninstalling programs) while it's imaging.

I use the clone feature only, but when doing so you cannot access the HDD or OS once it starts.

Appears to me a dos-type app loads in ram (so your OS is not being "used"), and that's what clones. Not the app residing on your HDD

I have used Ghost many times and I have never seen it making the image while Windows is still running. It always reboots to DOS and does the imaging from there.

Ghost 9 can backup straight inside Windows, with what they call Hot Imaging. The backups restore the whole OS exactly and perfectly. It seems they made this so we can carry on using Windows. I was just wondering, how does it memorise everything so quickly, while I carry on using it? Like BlueWeasel said above it freezes the OS files.
