Norton Ghost boot disk problems for tcp/ip

I've been trying to backup over tcp/ip with Ghost for 2 months now and I still can't get it to work. Previously I was using Ghost 5.0 but I finally gave up and purchased Ghost 2002 but still can't get it to work.

My desktop machine appears to work but I'm trying to backup a laptop to it. I can't get the laptop nic card to be recognized. I think I finally got the right drivers onto the boot disk using packet drivers but I get an i/o error while booting the laptop with the floppy. I'm thinking that maybe the pcmcia slot that the nic is in may not be getting recognized. Has anyone gotten this to work that can help me?

It is a Dell Inspiron with a Linksys 10/100 pcmcia nic card. Win 98SE is installed, and I'm using the MS-DOS option for booting with the Ghost boot disks.

Thanks for any help.

You need to have dos drivers for the laptop nic since ghost doesn't have them. You should have gone with the NDIS2 driver. You don't say which model you have, but you can get the driver here.

I tried to use the ndis drivers first but couldn't get them to work. Does ndis have drivers for the pcmcia slot of I can get them to work?

No, you have to load the driver for the pcmcia slot using autoexec.bat and config.sys . See if Dell has the driver on their site.

Dell does not have it on their site and states they will not support it. I checked before coming here.

Bad news. It looks like you have to buy the dos verison of card and socket services now, but www.tssc.com has a trial version. I never used it though, but it should work.

Well, I've spent about 2 nights trying to get the trial of CardWare to work. It won't install into windows. It gives me an error saying it can't write to my config.sys for some reason. I don't need it loaded in windows though so I've been trying to figure out how to make a boot disk with it. They say it works in dos but what they really mean is it works with dos software. Theoretically it should work while running dos only but their manual says they don't support it. Needless to say, I still can't get it to work.

I'm going to try working with that pcmcia disk from boot disk.com. I tried that site before posting here but I've tried so many things now, I can't remember what happened with that disk.
