Norton Ghost and Windows 2000

Ok, first, here is my system setup:
CEL2 @ 1GiG
BX-133 raid MobO
(2) IBM 75 GXP 30 GiG in RAID0
(1) WD Caviar 10 gig (Loaded w/MP3's 😉)
512 meg RAM
Inito 9100u SCSI Card
Imation (flashed to a Plextor) 8x20 SCSI

Here is what I am trying to do...I want to Ghost my HD and put the image (spanned) onto CDR's. Now, FIRST, the total partition size is like 58 gigs, but only about 3.5 gigs are used. I can't quite get it it recognize my CDR so I dont know how to put it on the CD's. I can get it to go to the WD HD, but cant seem to get it on the CDR's.

How big is my image file going to be if I use the most compression?
What settings should I use?
I am not exactly sure how to set up the CDR to be bootable, but that would be really nice!! 😉
Can I put the image file on my extra HD and then span it and make it bootable onto CDR's?

Any help would be MUCH appreciated!!! And THANKS in advance!!!

It's hard to say what the size of the image is going to be. But it'll definitely be smaller than 3.8GB. Considering that you are using highest comopression, I'd say it should be below 2GB.

As far as CDR goes, I think norton ghost can only work with plextor CDRs. I myself have a plextor, and have no problem creating image.

And finally, it will ask you if you want to make cd bootable during cd creation process. There are no special options for that.

You need to ghost to a seperate partition & tell ghost to split in into 640meg images. Then burn them to CDR making the first disc bootable. I do this all the time with my Plextor 12/4/32.

Heh, with my plextor I can create on-the-fly images. At least some justification for spending $200+ on a burner 😛

I also burn directly onto a cdr drive (hP 9110i).

Just make sure that you make a bootable disk with the drivers for your burner. Or the other way to do it is to go into the dos prompt using a windows 98 start up disc and enable cd rom support. Than put in the ghost disk. enable mouse support if you want, and then run ghost.

it should then have your cd-r drive....
If not, go buy a plextor. haha...

Lates...

actually you don't need to put the split switch in there if you enable spanning in options you can burn direct to cd and it will prompt you for the next cd when that one is full to make the cd bootable i use the "-bootcd" switch

Ok I just tested the split switch and I can see where it be necessary to use it. If you don't have a cdrw that is supported in ghost then you would need to split the image on a hdd after which you could create a set of bootable cd's containing the image with Nero. good to know there is more than 1 way to skin that cat.
