Norton Corporate Ghost 7.5 Help please!

Hi,

I'm currently involved in evaluating whether Norton Ghost Corporate version is right for our company.

As well as wanting to make image backups, we'd also like to make incremental backups - of among other things - samba shares.

Does anyone know if it is possible to make user specified (frequency, source, destination) incremental backups of directories on a samba share using ghost corporate 7.5?

Thanks for your time,

Andy

ps I've heard a new version of corporate ghost is almost here? Any details?

um... ghost is for making an image of a pc, not really for file backup. for that you would want to use arcserve or veritas or some such utill

Like duhh said, Ghost is imaging software NOT backup software.

Thanks. I realise ghost is imaging software. However, with the corporate version you can do incremental backups (which I take to mean updating the image of the HD as to its latest state without having to image it all). Since this to me is essentially a backup - and since the kind of backup I want is an image I can deploy off a server complete with the latest user data, it seems ok to me?

The only problem I have (presuming I've got the right interpretation so far) is that I want to know if I can do incremental backups of specific directories on a samba share at specified intervals.

Thanks,

Andy

No. Incremental backup does not allow you to CHOOSE SPECIFIC DIRECTORIES.
It basically does a SNAPSHOT of the Image. (be forwarned - IMAGES get HUGE when doing incremental backups)

Thanks for your help. Could you elaborate a little please. What is the difference between a snapshot of an image and an image? Is the image a partition/collection of partitions?

Thanks for your time.

Cheers,

Andy
