I have no ability to use antivirus or scan for viruses with norton progs in win xp. I have no auto protection, and it says I must uninstall av 2001, but Im pretty sure its all gone. Ive deleted as far as I can see, but I still cant install av 2002, so I dont know what to do. Anyone running xp and av 2002?

using it here. suggest you search all your files & registry & delete any previous instances of 2001!

There's almost always very detailed instructions on Symantec's web-site for getting rid of their software. It really inbeds itself sometimes, especially AntiVirus software. If it's not completely removed (especially if you tried uninstalling it without making sure it wasn't running in the background) it will interfere with your new install. Make sure you are following the instructions for your version of NAV. They are usually a few pages long, there's lots of stuff to remove, mostly in the registry. Don't forget to back it up before you go in and start deleting stuff.

Try installing 2001 again and then uninstall it without changing anything in it after you install it. Then try installing 2002. If still a problem go into registry under h key local machine\software and delete the key symantec. Next check the h key current user and under software and delete the symantec key.
