Norton antivirus

Ok everyone here is the deal. I am running win2k/ sp2. One day that I turned on the computer and I recieved the error:

unable to start symevent, and the logo at the bottom has the x on it. I have tried to enable it but it gives me the same exact error. I would ask Norton about it but they charge 30 bucks for technical support. so I have turned to you guys. Hope someone can help me. I am here so If you need extra info about my pc i can tell you. The worst part is that I dont remember what I installed that began this error.

do you have it on cd? and therefore can you just re-install it?

it wont change anything, i have uninstalled, reinstalled more then 3 times. It simply wont change a thing. I think that a program that i am running is conflicting with it. One that starts up before antivirus. Is there any command like msconfig in windows 9X in windows 2000 which will allow you to select the items you want to startup (and no not the startup folder)
