Norton Antivirus wont install

I just put together my new system and all has gone great until now. Antivirus throws this error during installation claming that the conflict is with a Cyrix 686 processor or First Aid 98 or HelpSpot. But I've check and I dont have these installed and am running 4400+ X2s.

Anyone experience this? and have a solution its really got me down 🙁

Have you disabled the XP/SP2 AV program before attempting to install NAV?

I would contact Norton for tech support. May be an issue with the X2 processor although I haven't heard of any such problems.

When you built this new system did you perform a clean install of Windows? If not you must perform a repair install of windows as explained here: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

You can't just swap mobo and boot up and go.

If Norton continues to be a problem you have lots of other (and frankly better) choices out there. I'm no fan of Norton's code bloated AV app (last GOOD Norton AV app was NAV 2002 IMO). There are two good free AV programs: AVG and AntiVir. Both use a LOT less memory than Norton and less CPU cycles. Team one of them up with Microsoft's free Anti-Spyware beta and you've got all the protection you need. Make sure to FULLY uninstall all NAV related apps first.

Hope this helps...
