Anybody have a solution for this? I am trying to run norton antivirus 2002 with all the automatic updates via the web in place and everytime I try to run a virus scan the darn thing immediately BSODs on me. I am running a duron 600 at 950 on an Abit kt7-raid with win98. I have installed this software on other systems and it seems to run fine. All suggestions would be greately appreciated.

did you have another antivirus app on your pc before? NAV doesn't play nice with other AV programs. Even previous installations of Norton AV. Be utterly sure you have completely uninstalled ALL antivirus software before installing NAV2002. You can find a program on the symantec web site that completely removes previous installations of Norton AV.

If that's not the case, then perhaps your RAM=not good?

Anyone else?

Do you have the latest SymEvent drivers, you can get them from the ftp or support website. Are you sure it's NAV that is bluescreeing? I ask because you say it's happening in response to a scan, the scan code is all win32 code (autoprotect is kernel mode code). It might be that the heavy IO that Nav starts is causing some other driver to bluescreen.

Can you post the bluescreen info (at least the error code and description and any file references the bluescreen gives)

Thanks guys, I tried removing and reinstalling, but no good , same thing....
I just upgraded from 128 to 256 mg ram about a month ago . It was fresh from the store ram, not used.

The BSOD says:
A fatal exception 00 has occured at 0028:c2a221b7 in VXD hpt3xx(01)
+ 00004D57. The current application will be terminated.

I've gotten bad ram from Fry's and the local mom and pop--- check your ram.

And never buy your ram from Fry's. Unless you live next door to them and/or a glutton for punishment.

The hpt3xx vxd looks likes it's part of the driver set for a highpoint controller, is that what your system has? That is what is bluescreening. Can you first verify you have a highpoint controller, and if so, if your using the latest driver for them?

Yes you are right Bill, I do have a high point controler as I am running my hard drive on th built in raid controler to get the ATA100 speed. My mother board is the Abit KT7-raid. I never thought of updating the raid controler. I will look aruond and try to find an update for it and let you know.
thanks
