Norton Antivirus 2000 and Live Update?

Noriaki

Lifer
Hi, when I try to live update Norton Antivirus 2000 I get this message:

LiveUpdate was unable to establish a connection to the LiveUpdate server.

If you use America Online, CompuServe or Prodigy Internet to connect to the Internet, you will need to connect to the Internet before you run LiveUpdate. LiveUpdate works with AOL versions 3.0 and above for Windows 95/98 and Windows NT. Once connected to the Internet run LiveUpdate with the Internet connection option. If you continue to have problems, verify your Modem and Internet settings.

Click Retry to try again or Cancel to exit.

Does anyone know what this message means?

I've never heard anything about subscription to Live Update before, but it seems that it is a subscription service nowadays....do you think my subscription is over...or?

So I downloaded an updater from the FTP and that worked fine...so maybe that's independant of subscription?

Well, Norton gives you one year of free updates through LiveUpdate. After that, you need to pay for another year OR you download the updates manually. If you reformat and reinstall Norton though, your subscription is reset and you get another free year.
Also, maybe LiveUpdate doesn't work with Norton 2000 anymore?

I just re-installed windows, and now it's stopped working.

Heheheh 😉

Before the format it was fine, and now it's not.

My version of Norton AV is pretty old though...maybe it just stopped being supported by live update.

I doubt I've gone a year without formatting since I"ve gotten NAV2000, so that's probably why I've never run into the subscription before.

Maybe I should look into AVG or something like that.

Thanks for the info man.

Well, if it worked before the format, then maybe it's some just weird connection issue. I have no idea how to fix it though. 🙁

AVG and Avast are both free and decent virus scanners. AVG is faster, but I think Avast is a little better and has more features.
If you're willing to spend about $20, Norton Systemworks Pro 2003 is available for pretty cheap. Check out the Hot Deals forum.
