NAV 2k4 includes a spyware/adware checker. WHen I run it it always finds some adware programs, but it can never deete them. Every single time it says Delete Failed. But then if I scan again it finds them again. I even tried booting up and scanning immediately but it still couldn't delete them.

Has anyone else had this problem and hopefully found a solution? It's pointless to have NAV find adware if it won't do anything about it anyway...

Reboot into safe mode and launch NAV. Most of these spyware programs basically load themselves when Windows starts up; they won't have that chance in safe mode.

Tried safe mode and it didn't help. NAV 2k4 still foudn 20 files it noted as Adware but it woudln't remove any of them.

Seems like this feature is useless....

But AdAware and Spybot didn't find these items so I dunno what they arelly are...

There's an excellent thread on removing spyware, adware, and browser hijacks stickied at the top of this forum.

I know that there are tons of spyware/adware removers out there, I'm just trying to figure out why NAV 2k4 detects the adware but won't remove it...

Maximum PC had an article on this (I use Norton internet security 2004). They basically chalked it up to this is Norton's first foray into spyware and the implementation is very "rough around the edges" to say the least. Basically it is ok at finding spyware but currently just links you to the Norton web site on how to manually remove this junk. I run my Norton along with Spybot search & destroy... At least until NIS 2005 comes out? Maybe?

make sure you get the latest build for ad-aware..I was running the old one..and kept having the same problems with NAV..installed the new one and it found 40 objects. no more problems.
