Norton Anitvirus 2002 vs. 2005

I have Norton Antivirus 2002 running on my system, but I noticed that Norton Internet Security 2005 came with my motherboard. I attempted to use it, but for some reason the LiveUpdate feature will not work with the 2005 version. Is this a problem worth troubleshooting, or should I just be content with the (working) 2002 version that I currently have installed?

Thanks,
J. J.

Do you think there is a conflict between having 2 liveupdate clients on the same system?
(any errors or anything?)
<- still using 2000

Yes, there would be a conflict. I uninstalled Antivirus 2002 completely before installing 2005.

I can't remember what the error said exactly. It basically tried to connect to Symantec's servers, then after about 5 seconds a window came up saying that it "could not connect to the server, check your network connection, etc, etc." I was able to access my LAN and the internet just fine, so I know that wasn't the problem.

so 2002 isn't running on the system?
when you uninstalled 2002, did you uninstall liveupdate (separate entry in remove programs)?

Yes, I uninstalled both entries in the programs list before installing 2005. Due to the issues I was having with 2005, I uninstalled it (both entries) and reinstalled 2002.

The copy that came with your mobo may only be a three month trial and from there you'll have to pay to resubscribe in order to get your Live Update definitions.

Well, that would explain it except for one thing. The 2002 version that I'm using, which does successfully run LiveUpdate, is also initially installed as a three month trial that requires resubscription annually.

How the heck are you still using 2002? You must have reinstalled your operating system once or twice, right?:p

My sub for 2003 is over in a few days, and I think my time with Norton has ended. Take a look at this thread. I've been using Kaspersky for a few days now and I like it.

win2k re-installed twice and had to install nav 2002 because I was too busy to upgrade new anti-virus.
