Hello ATOT, since this is basically a cry for non-hardware help, I figured I'd ask in OT for a better response.
My boss's 15 year old daughter is away at Northwestern University for a 3 week long chemistry camp. She brought her laptop and wants to connect to the internet. My boss asked if I would field a phone-call from her at 6 pm (about 4 hours from now) and try to guide her through connecting to their resnet. As I assume she's staying in a dorm, I wonder if there's a trick to the connection.
She says she's already attempted just plugging into the connector and launching IE (which would try to find any new DHCP settings... ) so there's got to be something else that she's missing.
So, my list of ideas at this point is to
1.) have her run ipconfig to see if she's connected
2.) have her try to ping something on their network and something near me
3.) if needed, have her launch the "new internet connection" wizard in windows.
At this point, I don't even know what OS she has..... lol. If anyone knows how NU does these things, please chime in.
