Northern Lights down south?

I just heard on the radio that we may be able to see the northern lights down here in Alabama.

That would be awesome! I've always wanted to see it!

Where can I find more info on this? Havn't gotten around to google yet.

Thanks!

Michael

So a search for "Sun" - and no, you will not be able to see them. The Aurora display will be brighter and more intense than usual - people in the middle of the US might get some display of colors, but that's pretty much it. It caused by the 3rd largest solar flair ever recorded, the superheated gas and particles are bombarding the earth as we speak, so tonight people who can see them should have a good display 😉

Not at all.

I've never seen them down here, even way up in the north GA mountains away from all the light pollution.

I'm in Alabama too, but haven't heard that it'll be quite this far south. I do remember getting to see them when I was in Chatanooga one time back around 89. Kinda cool since it hardly can be seen this far south.

There were some as far south as Sacramento, CA and SE Missouri thismorning.. Divide, Colorado too.

wonder how many people seeing this are thinking, "well gosh, they really like the aurora borealis a lot"

😀

hey, on-topic: what time are the auroras supposed to appear? (if its by time, could you either tell me when MA is gonna be hit, or direct me to a site which has an index?)

a cowworker called in around 8pm eastern (in nw ohio) to say that he was seeing them at the time, really well too. maybe they'll still be there for me at 11pm when i leave work.

I want to see! I wish we could have some in NJ...I guess it's too low?

You should have no trouble seeing them in Jersey if you get to a place without light pollution. They've been awesome in Connecticut, but totally invisible in the major cities. Out in the country it's been a great show.

i live in eastern nc, have wanted to see this ever since i read about it in school

my brother was up with his friends the other night and saw it, didnt know what it was. i missed it,looked around on thrusday night but couldnt find any indication of what time i may be able to see it, and since i get up at 5:30 to go to work i couldnt really stay up all night hoping, bleh, prolly never get to see it again, figures.
