I'm using PC Probe II and for the first time in two weeks of owning this MB....it shoots a warning on me on PC Probe II a flag that my NB temp is high and is at 45 degrees C. I'm a big noob.... is this a high temp? I'm not even gaming... just surfing the net.

If it helps.. .I'm running 3 GB DDR2 RAM and a Q6600 with Zalman Cooling.

Thanks guys!

Zalman cooling which one? I am guessing one of the tower-type (blowing air towards the back of the case)? It has been discussed as a weakness of these L-type tower heat sink that they do not provide enough air circulation for NB, Mosfet, VRMs, etc. 45C is hot for idle (web surfing) but it's not in a danger zone yet. Quad cores tend to make NB run hotter as well. Change the PC Probe's warning threshold to something like 50~55C and see if it still sends you warning during CPU intensive load.

If it doesn't go above that while loading CPU and memory I think you'll be fine. But the chances are that it will probably signal the warning again. You can try the followings:

1. Try lifting up the heat pipe assembly and re-seating it with fresh layer of thermal interface material (TIM).
2. Try to improve the case air flow. (including cable management)
3. Try some kind of active cooling on NB. If your case supports a side fan, that could help as well.

I've been getting some pretty high temps on my NB as well. Around 52 C while just web surfing, that seems extremely excessive.

My CPU is watercooled and running at about 23-25 C. The MB temp is at 37. I'm not overclocking. Does this suggest there is problem with my chipset?

HOLY CRAP!!!

I just did some more checking and from what I've been able to find NB temps for the Asus Maximus Formula are generally around 30 C at idle. For some reason my temps are holding steady at about 50 C at idle for both NB and SB. Everything is set at stock speeds, I haven't even started playing with an overclock.

Can anyone give me any advice for fixing this problem? If I'm at 50 C at idle and stock speeds, I'm going to be in some serious trouble if I try doing any overclocking! Here's my set up.

Coolermaster COSMOS Case
Asus Maximus Formula
Intel E8400
Asus 3870X2
OCZ Flex XLC PC2-9200
Zalman CPU waterblock
WIN XP SP2

Any ideas?
