you guys think it'd be a good idea to unplug the fan on there?

I dont o/c, i'm running a 100Mhz bus (Duron 750), not all KT133A mobos have a fan, some have just a heatsink, and the fan was basically put there to help o/cing, so in my case do you think it'd be ok to unplug it?

it is loud!

I unplugged mine a few months ago and haven't noticed any instability, but I have an 80mm fan on my heatsink that blows some air that way anyway.

You could probably replace the HSF with just a large heat sink without fan.

cool thanks for replying guys, i unplugged it and so far no probs :D

although i think andyhui has a point that it would be better to put a larger heatsink on it rather than the puny one, but like i said so far no probs :)

there were a few threads saying the fan was loud. Mine went loud after a few months. It just got irritating. To be safe, I replaced it with a blue orb from thermaltake. Unfortunately, you have to remove the mobo from the case to do this. While I was replacing it, I put some thermal grease as well. The original did not have any.

its safe as long as u dont do 133Mhz fsb. thats why they put the fan there. also u might want to put some thermal compound on the heatsink, asus doesnt put any there, just to be on the safe side. trust me its worth it.!!!!

I unplugged mine (no heatsink replacement) since about 8 months ago. No overheating problem so far, and I don't think there will.
