I got a Soyo KT333 Dragon Ultra and the northbridge fan quit working (actually the fan got so loud and really noisy) so I took it off. That was like a week ago and my computer still runs great even when I play games for a long time. So is that northbridge fan necessary at all? Thanks

I would receommend at least replacing it with a larger heatsink, the heatsink on those is very small, and without the fan is nearly useless. If you aren't overlocking, you may be fine..

As you've already discovered but seem to have trouble believing, northbridge chipset fans are a "marketing feature" at best. Probably just cheaper than a good heatsink, like this one-

Extremely effective, low maintenance, energy efficient, too. What more could you want?

EDIT- sorry about the funky link. Go to www.sharkacorp.com and click on the ZM-NB32J, it's what you want....
