Northbridge Cooling

I'm running an E6300 on a GigaByte DS3. My northbridge gets extremely hot and I was thinking of getting something to cool it. I have a Zalman 9500 that's right next to it, so I don't think I have enough room to attach a fan onto the northbridge. Any suggestions? Also, I'm not really familiar with these things, but can you use Arctic Silver 5 on the northbridge? I mean, can I just pop it out and apply some (if that's even worth doing or possible). Sorry if this is a stupid question 😛

replace the stock thermal pad with as5, just dont get it anywhere but the chip, and add a small fan on the heatsink it has?
or if you can fit it in somehow the swiftech 159 cu is awesome
i have the older style model and its very effective.

I have an Asus P5ND2-SLI Board and the northbridge cooler is crap (IMO) and I was actually thinking of trying to use an older P-III HSF combo as they are somewhat similar in size and it shouldn't take much to take some measurements to drill the P-III sink... Any ideas about this?

if it fits it should be fine, maybe use small springs instead of bolts so you dont get too much pressure on it and crack the core. like drill a tiny hole on top of the heatsink for a spring enter.
i have used nuts and bolts before but you have to be very careful that it is sitting flat.
