there is a short video, but body language tell me this might be a huge step forward.
note the cement line dividing the two. initially Moon (South) invites Kim (North) into the South, then as they are speaking Moon allegedly said "i would like to visit the North sometime" and Kim allegedly told him "we can do it now", which is when he took Moon's hand and took him across the line.

They have both pledged demilitarization and (possibly later) free movement between the two states.

Kim was impressed by SK's infrastructure and other things he saw during Olympics and wants in. Many pics during games N/S putting their heads together.

I hope that they are able to work things out which is in the people's best interests. Nobody thought that East and West Germany would reunite but it happened and they're better off for it and the same could happen for Korea.

Good optics but we've been down this road before. I think China will do most of the outside string pulling.

remember that North Korea exists because of the cold war, a direct byproduct of Stalinist Russia.

my guess is that ... Dennis Rodman got inside Kim and made him understand that in his position, he can be the saviour, the guy who turns around a regime who everyone thought could only end in complete destruction. Which is better than getting bombed with a MOAB by the US.

still, it's totally understandable that he grew up in a state of constant paranoia. i don't blame him.

SK's spokeswoman credited this to Trump. His toughness policy on NK has worked. Take that Rodman and shove it. Rodman had nothing to do with this. Trying to credit Rodman...lols.

yup, these six months of toughness are really what broke the resolve of a 60-year communist regime.

You guys realize North Korea has given up exactly nothing at this time, right? Believe it when they actually do something. Literally the only concession that has been made so far is the US giving in to North Korea’s longtime demand for direct talks between the two leaders. North Korea will absolutely play nice until that meeting actually happens. I find it funny that compuwiz tried to say that Trump’s toughness has paid off when the only thing he has done differently is give in to North Korea’s demands while talking a lot of shit.

If North Korea actually takes concrete steps to demilitarize the peninsula, denuclearize, etc, I will be the first person to congratulate Trump. Conservatives are so desperate for anything that looks like a win though that they are engaging in some comically wishful thinking.

That's all true and I'm not celebrating, the proof of the pudding and all, but these days I have to take encouragement where I can find it, again with due caution, as there's so little of that to be had.

We'll see how this goes.

Hehe. This is the nutbag SK is dealing with.

Kim Jong Un Brings His Own Toilet On Trips In Case His Enemies Steal His Excrement, Koreans Say

https://www.yahoo.com/news/kim-jong-un-brings-own-123852984.html

The US has been doing this for years, maybe decades and I suspect nearly every other major country does the same. With today's DNA and other medical tests there is a huge amount of information that can be derived from excrement.

Homer, you just don't know shit.

The comical state of wishful thinking you ascribe here to a need for a win, I think, is actually more of a permanent feature of ego defense against the whole of reality.

Thanks President Trump.

Granted it is all talk thus far, but it is further along than it has ever been.

That's because SK like all the other world leaders now know if you want any help from the US you need to get a little orange on your lips.

If you think Trump's ranting is strategic you and Trump need to go in timeout.

If Kim is as paranoid as it would appear, he and Donald Trump should go no where near each other. Trump's egotistical bluster is just the sort of thing that could set him off. He certainly would not maintain Korean level of decorum, which has a high standard I think. The appearance of respect is important to them, where as Trump....

Let us hope China and South Korea can convincingly maintain a state of progress despite the ticking time bomb approaching them.

The sooner North Korea gets Samsung Galaxy smartphones. The sooner the capitalist rebellion can start!

If you thought fake news was bad, just wait till North Korea joins the internet!

"Supreme leader this, supreme leader that, supreme leader joins WWE and beats up Trump!" etc.
