The threat of getting mortared for failure helps produce excellence.

"Despite its enormous cheering section, North Korea only sent 22 athletes to compete — that's right, the team's cheerleaders outnumber its athletes by about 10-1."

The one time being a North Korean has benefits.

It's actually kinda sad to see in a way, because it's great on the surface but we all know when they go back they hand in the outfits and any other supplies they brought with them and go back to living in poverty. If any of them failed or made a mistake performing, they are executed.

I can't imagine just how tempting it is for them and the athletes to defect, but their families would suffer if they did.

It says they were chosen from well-connected families. I don't think the poverty-stricken citizens will ever set foot outside the country.

I wonder if they were given an extra daily ration of rice leading up to the games.

I don't think they'd pick poor bastards.

These are probably well-to-do folks living in capital. Also probably don't get shot if they mess up

These girls are from top communist party families. Not only are they beautiful, they're all highly educated and talented women. If you knew how well off they were you would feel sorry for yourself and your condition. The leader of the cheerleader group was once Kim Jong Un's early girlfriend. His family made him give her up but she's still travels and carries around Hermes bag. She came to Korea carrying expensive Chanel bag and wearing decked out fur coat that probably cost more than most of your possessions.

I have to hand it to Kim Jong Un. The dude basically stole the spotlight and the games from PyeongChang, South Korea, and converted it into Pyongyang Olympics without spending a dime and having South Korea pick up the tab. These games will forever be known as Pyongyang Olympics in my mind. Brilliant move on the part of fat Kim.
