North Korea bans sarcasm because Kim Jong-un fears people only agree with him "ironically"

North Korea has forbidden people from making sarcastic comments about Kim Jong-un or his totalitarian regime in their everyday conversations.

Even indirect criticism of the authoritarian government has been banned, Asian media reported.

Residents were warned against criticising the state in a series of mass meetings held by functionaries across the country.

“One state security official personally organised a meeting to alert local residents to potential ‘hostile actions’ by internal rebellious elements,” a source in Jagang Province told Radio Free Asia’s Korean Service.

“The main point of the lecture was ‘Keep your mouths shut.’”

The caution was also issued in neighbouring Yangang Province, sources revealed.

Officials told people that sarcastic expressions such as “This is all America’s fault” would constitute unacceptable criticism of the regime.

You seriously couldn't make this shit up even if you tried. I never knew that hipsters existed in North Korea. 😵

I worked with Koreans at Hynix and many of them dont understand sarcasm at all. Its not the language barrier either. Its a concept their culture only just recently encountered and doesnt use much.

He sounds perfectly aligned with the SJW left and their language policies they are trying to push. Next he can ban the korean equivalent of "he" and "she" as well and replace it with idiotic zir, hir or whatever other moronic terms they are pushing now.

I wonder if any of us will live to see a freer North Korea.

A freer NK, probably. A free one? Not likely. Even if they were to get rid of tubby at this point, you have a country with entire generations that have known absolutely nothing about being free and making their own choices. I find it hard to believe they'd be capable of really being "free" at this point without a ton of help. Kind of like someone who's lived in a prison for 40 years really struggling to cope when they get out into the normal world again.

Kim is an insane and sheltered child with the power to kill anyone (of his people) he pleases.

I wonder if any of us will live to see a freer North Korea.

Such freedom from slavery would be paid for in many lives.
No one is willing to fight to free those people.
