I was wondering if these North Face Jackets on ebay were real or fake. They seem to have very good prices, but it just seems fake. The way some sellers advertise it as being shipped from China. It's really hard to tell, anyone have any experience with this? Or know of any other places to get them at a good price?

I wouldn't mind having other brands also. Spyder, Arc'teryx, Marmot, they are all good as well.

They're possibly real. If they're made in China to begin with they could be slight irregulars and what not. I know my friend got the same pair of Nike shoes I paid $70 for $10.

So it sounds like I shouldn't buy them. I had a feeling it was fake. I should be wary of things that would be shipped from China. BUt than where can I find good quality real ones for a good price?

Sales at local stores are a good place to start. I just went to REI yesterday and got a Kelty backpack that was $100 everywhere - on the tag, on the shelf, etc. It rang up at $69 - no mention of any sales anywhere. I was pumped - sometimes it is worth it to check local stores and try stuff on, see if it's what you expected/what you really want, etc.

If nothing else, it gives you an idea of what you really want and you can then go to find it online for possibly cheaper. (I did check online for the backpack after I brought it home and every site (8 or so) that I checked had it for $99 or $100. Yay for local hot deals!

Haha!! I was shopping for a LV handbag, but now there are so many fakes out there, that I cannot bring myself to spend $600. plus, on a handbag and have ppl wonder if it is real or not!

I kind of doubt it, because lots of these coats are getting shipped from China.

My dad bought me a North Face gortex jacket while he was in China. When an few things started falling off (like the first day) I told him it couldn't be real. After less than 1 year, almost all the stitching is comming undone, there are holes in the pockets, air gets through like nothing, (was never) waterproof or resistant (actually more absorbant than anything), etc ...

I showed the coat to my dad about a month ago, and he tells me "I never said it was real. It cost me $25 bucks"...

Thanks dad. I'm not one to complain about receiving a free winter coat (because I really needed one), but to give me a fake coat that never kept me warm, and not say anything until it's already fallen apart is pretty sad.

I actually am a proud owner of a $10 Rolex :D. The most obvious giveaway is that the second hand ticks (a real Rolex has a sweep movement). Also, it's LOUD. You can hear the ticking far away from it. I bought it kind of as a joke.

I remember the thread about the guy who bought a NF jacket on Ebay and it turned out to be fake. I'd be really surprised if any new NF coat sold on Ebay for cheap turned out to be real.

I picked mine up Summer '98 in Nassau, Bahamas, FWIW. :D I realize that probably doesn't help you much :p. It's at my parents' house right now, otherwise I'd post some pics.

And I did wear it as part of a Halloween costume one year. Everyone thought it was real. All night I got "OMG dude, why did you wear a Rolex here, you know somebody's gonna steal it or spill beer in it!" I guess to the average tipsy layperson at a dimly lit, crowded Halloween party it looks real.

FAKE! FAKE! FAKE!

I'm the guy BillGates is referring to. Don't buy one! I would say that 99.9% of all North Face jackets on eBay are fakes. They're all from the the Xiang Yang Fashion and Gift Market in Shanghai.

I threatened the seller and managed to get 100% of my money back, including shipping.

Beware!
